Scott's "Hand in Hand: African Americans, Women & You - A Literary Study" is a three-month English, music and history program for African American students in the ninth grade. During the course of the three months, students will celebrate Black History Month, Women's History Month and National Poetry Month. Students will be exposed to many African American writers and in-depth studies of how the music and literature they now listen to and read is just a reflection of the music and literature of African Americans many decades ago. They will see literature in a different way as it is about them - their lives, their history, their music, and their future. The goal of this program is to increase knowledge of African American studies while increasing fluency and knowledge of literary elements.
