Our Lady of Grace School

Through Nucera's winning project, "The Worms Crawl In!," students at Our Lady of Grace School will learn how worm composting benefits the environment. Nucera's students will research and build their own composting system and develop solicitation letters to request donations of materials and media coverage. They will also examine their snack/lunch food and record the amount of compostable material they throw away and hypothesize how much material the school throws away. Then, the students will create a podcast that compares and contrasts past and current meals. The program will not only benefit the sixth-grade class but the entire student population and community. Letters will be written to the public explaining the benefits of worm composting and encourage readers to compost leftovers. The ultimate goal is to motivate students to eat nutritionally-sound foods. Nucera hopes that the students will build a worm composting system for school-wide use and that letters will be written to newspapers across the nation to encourage readers to compost. She lives in Langhorne.
