Blaylock's creative arts project titled, "Mississippi Heroes - Who Are They?", gives an opportunity of hope and vision to Calhoun City High School students. The purpose of the project is to engage students in the lives of ordinary Mississippi residents through photography and writing to show that they are everyday heroes. The basis for this research is author Eudora Welty, who also wrote about and photographed ordinary people during the Great Depression. The project will instill a sense of pride in the students by showing the beauty of their state and those who call it home. During the school year, students will visit the home of the late Welty in Jackson and study her written and photographic works. Then, they will be given digital cameras to capture images of people, or "heroes," throughout Calhoun County. From there, each student will choose 10 of their best photographs and describe each of the heroes. Finally, each student will use the writings and photographs to create a book that adds validity to those they personally deem as heroes. Blaylock resides in Calhoun City.
