Clark’s innovative winning program, “Stretching Our Class Tentacles around the World,” is designed to expand Tuscaloosa County High’s existing marine biology program. In the current program, students utilize a salt water touch tank to monitor and survey tidal organisms. Students record their observations on a daily basis and videos are uploaded monthly highlighting the latest tank developments. Clark plans to broaden the use of the school’s marine habitat by hosting virtual field trips, featuring the tank’s tidal ecosystem for schools around the world by placing underwater cameras in the tank. By adding a reef tank, the project will also help students embark on a new study of coral ecosystem. As part of the program, students will travel to a coastal location to install underwater webcams and conduct ongoing collaborative web conferences with marine scientists at the site. Clark welcomes classes and groups who want to visit and learn about marine biology and hopes to use technology to expand the current outreach of the program to groups that cannot travel. Clark resides in Northport.
