"Math Centers in the Wild," the winning program by Slavick, incorporates a plethora of plants and animals to introduce a multitude of math skills. For example, they will participate in "Patterns in the Polar Region," "Data in the Deep Sea," Geometry in the Jungle," "Digits At the Desert," "Rulers in the Rainforest," and "Finding Solutions in the Forest". Approximately 60 first graders at Desert Winds Elementary School will benefit from this innovative program. Through this program, students will explore and discover such math and science skills as measurement, shapes, patterns, data analysis, problem solving skills, and elements of time, all while having fun learning about the habitats of a variety of animal species. Slavick lives in Peoria.
