Laura Hojnacki

Hojnacki's "Summer Reading Club" project gives students and their parents access to a wide variety of literature so the children may continue developing their reading skills and strategies during the summer months. At the end of the school year, Hojnacki holds a student/parent meeting where she explains that each child will have the opportunity to meet with her once a week in order to return and obtain a new book collection. Parental involvement is encouraged and the child's reading level is frequently assessed to determine if a reading level change needs to occur. Students take pride in the progress they make during the summer and return to school with improved reading skills.
