Harrington’s and Cline’s innovative teaching program, “Mix-it-Make-it: Lessons in Making Food,” is designed for children in grades three through five to learn about working in a kitchen, including appliances, meal preparation, cooking and cleaning. The program will support students with a variety of abilities from low to moderate cognitive intellect, autism, as well as those with multiple different abilities. Learning about the kitchen is a way to help students become more independent and able to care for themselves, if needed. The teachers believe this may also be a way for students to build a stronger relationship with their families at home by helping their parents in the kitchen.
