The team’s innovative teaching idea, “Smart Boards for Social Studies,” focuses on bringing a technical edge to the social studies field. With the financial support of a Voya Unsung Heroes grant, the school will be able to replace its current standard projector screen with new interactive screens for student and teacher use in the social studies classrooms. The interactive, hands-on nature of Smart Boards would enhance the students’ learning experience and give them a more dynamic way to learn about history and humanities. Using Smart Board technology, students will be able to: 1. explore and analyze dynamic historical maps 2. examine virtual tours and interactive maps of continents, countries and regions 3. analyze demographic data, population dynamics, migration and cultural diversity 4. view and assess real-time political cartoons 5. view and analyze historical artwork that represents cultural and artistic aspects of different time periods 6. interact with historical documents and speeches 7. examine and analyze historical photographs.
