Kumari Durick
Durick’s innovative teaching idea, “Choice and Creativity: Centers in the Art Room,” is designed to create a dynamic and engaging art room environment in two K-5 elementary classrooms at two schools. The project will provide students with diverse opportunities to explore their creative interests through a series of interactive, hands-on learning stations. This innovative approach encourages students to take ownership of their artistic journey and develop their creativity, fine motor skills and visual discrimination abilities. Among the centers that students will explore are a toy building center, a drawing center, a fine motor center and a visual discrimination exercises center. This project represents a departure from traditional art instruction by providing students with autonomy and choice in their artistic pursuits. The centers allow for differentiated learning, catering to diverse interests and abilities.
