Kristy Lorenz

Lorenz's "Community of Learners" project creates an environment for young students that encourages education and communication to flow freely throughout the community. Children's books are sent to local parents to share with their infants; third graders are partnered with incoming kindergartners and create learning tools for them; students within grade levels are paired up as "learning buddies"; students are joined with nursing-home residents to share knowledge and experiences. The project stresses learning and growth by promoting interpersonal communication, partnering, and mentoring.
