Cannon’s innovative teaching idea, “Media Makerspace,” is focused on creating a do-it-yourself workshop where students can learn, create and collaborate. This DIY (do it yourself) workshop called a Makerspace will provide a safe environment for students to express their creativity and explore their interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education. Instead of being passive learners, students will participate in hands-on activities with access to basic tools and equipment such as recycled computer parts, circuitry kits and 3D pens. By creating interactive, DIY workshops like the Makerspace and providing students access to 21st century technology, Cannon believes it will help stimulate inquiry and encourage students to think about their future careers.
