Kristen Sargent

Sargent designed the "Take a Walk on the Wild Side: An Outdoor Classroom" project to allow students to experience interactive science activities that are not available to them in their regular classroom or their community due to lack of funding for field trips. Students will get to experience a concept instead of just reading about it. Sargent believes that when learning is made real, retention is enhanced. The program includes the creation of an outdoor learning environment where students will conduct experiments and participate in group discussions and activities that are designed to address state and national science standards. The students will also assist in creating outdoor ecosystems around the school, visit nature centers and work with community experts to create their own nature trail. Sargent's idea fulfills that gap. Sargent lives in Florence.
