Gregor's "Crime Scene Investigation" project brings together local volunteers, faculty and students in an interdisciplinary application. After reviewing a forensic fact sheet and a list of possible forensics tests, students investigate a crime scene set up by local law enforcement volunteers. Students use various scientific tests and current technology to compose an investigative report in which they detail their findings. After completion of the report, the crime's epilogue is revealed through a mock trial at the courthouse, where students present the evidence to a judge and jury composed of other students. By developing awareness and enthusiasm in scientific methodology, math, journalism and civic responsibility, the project provides a positive experience, allowing students to gain from in-depth, reality-based problem solving.
