The team’s innovative teaching idea, “Worth the Good Stuff,” is a project that was inspired by a student visit with a local metal artist-in-residence in Moore, Oklahoma. Students attending the Moore Alternative School and Treatment began requesting metal art supplies after the visit and are now working with the medium to create their own jewelry pieces. Through this project, students will learn how to properly use metal stamping as a medium and will create several jewelry pieces independently. Many of the materials purchased through Worth The Good Stuff are reusable, high quality and will last for many, many years, like the stamping letters, anvils and hammers. Even the remaining materials that are consumables can be supplemented with recyclable and donated materials and will last multiple semesters. According to the team, metal arts is teaching the students creativity and entrepreneurship as well as serving as a therapeutic activity for students undergoing treatment.
