“Instruction on the Go!” is the winning program created by Pike to help students in the nursing program in grades 11 and 12 at Hunterdon County Polytech Career Academy keep abreast of current changes in technology and enter their professions with a technological edge. Components of the program include providing students with laptop computers with access to course materials, a classroom blog, and interactive notebooks in the form of student blogs that were created. Through the program, students who may have limited access to Internet connectivity because of the absence of personal computers at home will have the opportunity to access their course materials whenever their schedules permit. The effectiveness of the program will be evaluated on a weekly basis with the assessment of account activity, student postings, discussions, and testing. Pike hopes the program will promote lifelong learning among her students and give people insight into the increase of educational opportunities that are now being offered online for students to achieve success. She also hopes that the implementation of a simulated online course environment will help make the transition to the post-secondary and professional worlds less difficult for her students. Pike lives in Skillman.
