"Creativity Helps Hunger," the winning program created by deNeui, will help fourth-grade students at Falcon Ridge Elementary School learn the important role that the arts play in improving and bringing the New Prague community together. Students in the program will create unique, handmade bowls that will be sold to help raise money for the New Prague Food Shelf and fight local hunger. Each bowl will be created by using clay-building techniques and decorated with glaze to make the bowl innovative and functional. During the program, students will learn the process of creating a clay bowl and how to properly use and care for tools. They will be able to tap into their creativity by exploring various textures, shapes and themes while making the bowls. The program will encourage collaboration between five communities in the New Prague area and the program's success will be measured by the amount of money that is raised for the local food shelf. A resident of Richfield, deNeui hopes students will learn about the importance of community service and the impact they can have on their local community and the world.
