Jones’ innovative teaching idea, “Sensational 64,” focuses on teaching students about historical figures from the Middle Ages by conducting a “March Madness” style bracket. After 64 historical figures are chosen and given designated places on the bracket, each student will deliver an oral argument asserting that their assigned historical figure was the most influential person of the Middle Ages. Through multiple rounds of debates and voting, each class will collectively choose a winner. This project, which Jones hopes to extend across multiple grade levels, will provide students with valuable experience conducting online research, using an interactive online classroom interface, corroborating primary and secondary sources and giving oral presentations.
