“STEM Elective Course” is Moore’s innovative teaching idea. Focused on physics and aeronautics curriculum, the program will provide an opportunity for students to incorporate the skills of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through multiple projects that are designed to challenge middle school students while promoting team work and problem solving in an enthusiastic and creative environment. Students will learn how to use scientific reference materials, understand, plan and carry out scientific investigation, identify variables, collect and organize data, interpret data, analyze information, make predictions, and defend conclusions. Throughout the class, they will develop an understanding of the roles of troubleshooting, research and development, invention and innovation, and experimentation in problem solving using the engineering design process. Being a part of a community with a strong military presence, students who excel in the STEM course may earn a partial or full scholarship to attend the National Flight Academy at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. Moore, who lives in Navarre, hopes her program will help inspire students to choose careers that utilize science, technology, engineering and math.
