Housepian's proposed project, "Digitizing Creativity & Voice: To Air is Human, To Create Divine", was created with two goals in mind: 1) ensuring students stay ahead of the technology curve and 2) utilizing emerging technologies as a means of artistic expression. Accomplishing these goals will be achieved through the development of a digital recording studio where students can record their work for portfolios, commercial use and entertainment; converting in-school video production to high definition with the help of the local VideoOnDemand cable system; and creating a 24-hour Internet radio station which would serve as a community resource and creative outlet for students. Implementation of this project will provide about 100 students in grades nine through 12 a chance to collectively analyze and process media content with the ultimate goal of producing a commercially viable communications vehicle for the community. The project involves a variety of disciplines - writing, art, photography, video production and music education - and supports self-expression and literacy among teenagers. In addition to student participation, the effectiveness of this project will be determined through community involvement. Housepian resides in Perrysburg.
