Farragut Middle School
Rehder's project idea, "Wide Angle: Creations in Film", is designed to help students improve their language arts and reading skills by creating a ten-minute documentary on a topic of the student's choice. Approximately 30 eighth-grade students will select a topic, conduct research, create a bibliography and interview a list of experts with the help of local news journalists. Students will then conduct on-camera and telephone interviews, develop a treatment for the documentary and edit the footage. Local news journalists and teachers will offer their feedback on the films and the final versions will air throughout the school first on a closed-circuit system and later on the Knoxville and Farragut community channel, CTV. In addition to improving language arts skills, students will ultimately strengthen their interpersonal and leadership skills as they collaborate with local professionals and community influencers to develop the documentaries. Rehder is a resident of Lenoir City.
