Fitts' "Science Serenades" project is a mentoring program for low-achieving students that integrates reading, science, and music. Through the program, students research various science topics and use the information to compose "Science Serenades" - songs about their respective topics, set to popular tunes. The students then create PowerPoint presentations combining their songs with appropriate words and pictures and share those presentations with other students. The project culminates in the cultivation of a garden, where students put their research to use in growing flowers, keeping butterflies, and other activities.
