Wright, an honors literature teacher, believes the fastest way to convey information to students is through visual images and his winning program idea, the "Visual Literacy Program." The program integrates works of art into high school literature and history classes and helps students with their ability to explain the connections between literature and historical events. New additions to the existing program will include a partnership with a local art museum to serve as a resource and destination for field trips, establishing an artist-in-residence program to help students create an original piece, and a peer mentor program that will partner high school and elementary school students. The various program elements will help improve students' classification and analytical skills, understanding of curriculum concepts and nurture an appreciation for art. Wright is a resident of Charleston.
