Sanford Junior High School

Williams’ and Rosa’s innovative teaching idea, "A Room With A View," will enable students to expand their understanding of the world around them by visiting a multitude of places right from the comfort of the school library. Although Virtual Reality (VR) is not new, it will be new to the majority of the students at the school – many who never get an opportunity to leave the area or the state. The project will cover a broad spectrum of curricula and employ STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) as a primary catalyst. Students will travel to places like Antarctica and talk with scientists and they will learn about the arts and create their own art and music after visiting places such as the Louvre Museum and hearing from a local artist who will share their talents and travels. Veterans, grandparents, and other community members will be invited to visit and share their travel experiences and the students will in turn share their VR experiences. The goal is for students to 'see,' not just through technology goggles, but through the eyes of others when they share their life experiences in the places they travel virtually.
