Julie Tipton

Tipton's "Biotech on the Brain" project uses biotechnology to teach all freshmen biology students Mendelian genetics, patterns of inheritance and the interaction of genes. Through inquiry-based experiments in an upgraded biology lab, students demonstrate an increased understanding of the genetic concepts of heredity, mutation and DNA structure. Students use PCR and electrophoresis techniques to extract and analyze DNA.
