Josephine Schoonmaker

Schoonmaker's "Holocaust Enrichment Program" augments a mandated course in Holocaust education. The program takes a multimedia approach, incorporating lectures, films, and interactive projects that relate to social studies, language arts, literature, art, and public speaking. A nearby Holocaust research center is also utilized. Through participation in the program, students increase historical knowledge and critical thinking skills, raise their awareness of cultural, religious, racial, and ethnic differences and prejudices, and learn the importance of tolerance and acceptance.
