Joni Rubinstein

Water conservation is essential in the desert climate as the demand for water increases. The students at Estes Elementary School are doing their part with Rubinstein's winning project "Sustain with Rain: Water Harvesting for Desert Dwellers". The program involves Culvert style rainwater tanks that will be installed to collect rainwater. Water collected will be used for irrigating the school's garden and sustaining the landscape. Rubinstein, a resident of Tucson, developed the program for students to become aware of environmental issues surrounding their community and to help the students become advocates for finding solutions.
