"Working Artists," the winning workshop and mentoring program designed by St. Amant, will benefit more than 80 students at Suzanne Middle School. The program will have students apply theoretical knowledge to the real world, allowing them to actually live and work as artists. With the two key components being exposure to business skills and living life as an artist, students will improve their understanding of an artist's lifestyle while they comprehend and apply elements of running a business, including math, economics, sales and marketing. The art they develop through this program will be available online through an art shop profile on etsy.com, an online Website that hosts a marketplace of handmade and artistic items. Students will have an opportunity to develop mentoring relationships with, and ask questions of, professional artists who will be invited to speak in the classroom. St. Amant will also shoot and show several short documentaries that illustrate a day in the life of the artists and pose a series of questions that students will respond to in both verbal and written response. St. Amant lives in Fullerton.
