The team’s innovative teaching idea, “STEM On Ice,” focuses on having students create an outdoor ice rink and learn about the science of ice-skating using STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) concepts. Students will survey the school grounds for a rink location, measure and evaluate the different locations, work with school staff to help build the rink, and ultimately maintain the ice. During the project, students will also learn about the physics of ice skating, including concepts such as velocity, balance and friction, among others.
