Graham's "F.I.S.H." (Fundamental Investigation of Stream Habitat) is a specialized outreach project that involves K-6 students throughout the county. Operating in conjunction with EcoVan, a mobile environmental classroom, the project has students analyze water from streams at various school sites. The data they collect contains information used to determine quality and monitor pollutants in the Catawba River Basin, extending through North and South Carolina. Students also enhance computer skills as they create databases and post findings on a common Web site. As they cooperate with local agencies and share data with the community, students learn firsthand about the impact water quality has on all of their lives.
