Dunigan's "Living Laboratory" project seeks to improve young students' science scores by developing more relevant and hands-on science curriculum. The project involves an outdoor classroom built near a stream that runs behind school grounds. The "living laboratory" lets students learn to identify and study plant and animal life in the area. They also participate in a "stream watch" to help monitor its health. As students gain appreciation for their local environment, they explore many aspects of living science, including animal and plant biology principals, ecology, and science vocabulary.
