Newcastle High School

Stith and Scribner’s innovative teaching idea, “Student Video Production Club,” is focused on teaching students in-depth videotaping, editing, and production techniques, which are typically used in professional news and sports broadcast settings. In turn, this will translate directly into the classroom by bolstering the video production quality of student created media for projects. Students involved in this program will also be exposed to video and image editing software used in the film industry. Before, during, and after school-sponsored events, student “reporters” will be able to interview participants to compile complete video interviews and clips as an overall highlight reel of each event. Through participation in this program, Stith and Scribner hope students gain an increase in school spirit by attending a broader range of sporting and academic events. Additionally, the final videos will be made available in the school’s common area and website – allowing staff, students, alumni, and any other interested community members to stay involved with school events even when they are unable to attend in real time.
