Meschi’s innovative teaching idea, “Science Alive,” is designed to provide students with a hands-on approach to researching an insect. Currently, students only have access to two-dimensional resources for their research projects. This program will give them a three-dimensional experience to see their insect's life cycle and life span first-hand. It will also provide a kinesthetic approach to learning for the kindergarteners and first graders. Students will be able to touch the insect; be an integral part of setting up their habitat; take responsibility for taking care of their insect; and observe how the insect eats, sleeps, moves about, and adapts to its habitat. Students will also learn how to record their findings, just as a true scientist would.
