Armed with research that suggests two-thirds of students learn more when television is used, Edwards created the "Meeting the Needs of the Digital Learner" project at Algodones Elementary School. Edwards developed her project as a supplement to traditional learning since digital media makes it possible for teachers to immediately access video titles. Each video title is aligned with state standards and highlights a specific standard in math, science, reading or social studies. After viewing a video, students complete a follow-up activity. It is through the viewing of the video that students will increase their vocabulary and employ higher levels of comprehension. Edwards' program, unlike any throughout the state, will strengthen visual learning instruction and bring Algodones into the 21st century. Through this program, Edwards is providing students with a stimulating environment to make connections between the literature that they are reading and the world in which they live. She is a resident of Albuquerque.
