Evergreen Elementary
Thompson's "Parent-Teacher Partnership Home Kit" program will help parents and kids embrace learning together. Evergreen Elementary is located on an army post where most of Thompson's half-day kindergartners have one parent deployed overseas. Through the help of 100 mobile, take-home Parent-Teacher Partnership (PTP) Home Kits, the program will help strengthen the bonds between child and parent through quality time and education. The first semester will expose students to phonemic awareness, letter identification, and emergent reading to provide a base for learning. The second semester will cement academic mastery through the application of reading, writing and mathematics. Students will be given new learning materials once they master key concepts in their existing kits. The goal is to have students work above grade level in the future and continue the learning process with their families after they leave the school. Thompson resides in Olympia.
