Jean O'Quinn

O'Quinn's "The Dream Team, Parents + Students + Teachers = Winners" literacy project devotes 30-minutes of each school day to students' immersion in literature. Teachers and classroom volunteers conference with the students during the reading time to track reading goals and literacy progress. Students "go shopping" in the morning to select the books they will read at school and take home for homework. Students read, analyze and interpret literature and are able to recognize and understand the use of literary elements such as character, setting, plot and theme. Parents are prepared to assist students in developing their literacy skills.
