Janice Peterson

Peterson's project, "The Kindergarten Reading Club," increased reading skills for an at-risk population. Using appropriate books, Peterson designed a variety of lessons around each book that included phonics, artwork, drama, and opportunities to stretch thinking skills. At the end of the week, student is received their own copy of the book to take home. Four years later, club members consistently scored higher in reading achievement on a state wide assessment than did non-members.
