Kennedy's "Smith Science Camp" project is an after-school program for elementary school students which introduces them to the hands-on thrill of scientific learning. As part of this program, students learn about structural engineering and aerodynamics by building their own test vehicle; thermal dynamics by constructing a hot air balloon; dietary properties by testing and comparing the sugar content of chewed and unchewed bubble gum; and investigative dissection and analysis by collecting and reconstructing skeletal remains found in owl droppings. Through this, students gain an interest and understanding of scientific exploration and begin a strong science foundation on which to build as they advance through school.
