Buffalo, WY
Meadowlark Elementary School

Waters’ innovative teaching idea, “iGoGreen,” aims to develop students' awareness of the world and their community by helping to develop a paperless classroom. Children will work on tablets rather than endless reams of paper to prepare presentations and stories about their community, school, and interests. Their presentations will also include the gathered photographs, videos, and auditory commentary found online by using the tablet. Students will foster 21st century skills by using technology to address meaningful community problems, and they will learn essential communication and problem solving skills. Parent involvement in the classroom will be enhanced by their ability to communicate with their children and see their work through safe blogs and Internet posts. This program is designed to give first graders in rural Wyoming access to technology and experience with different cultures in the hopes of preparing them for the rigors and challenges they will face in a demographically diverse world.
