Vella's project combined language arts, science, and social studies to provide ninth grade students an environmental lesson using the local river. The students collected water and tested the composition, observed the native fauna, documented the physical geography of the area, and became familiar with maps. The objectives were to apply principles learned in the conventional classroom as well as develop a respect for the earth and its ecosystem.
