Cox’s innovative teaching idea, “Logan Film Festival,” is focused on helping students explore movie making as a way to assess understanding and encourage creativity. Cox will instruct teachers about how to use tablet-based software to film, edit and export videos. Each teacher who receives training will then be given a tablet to use in their classroom. The teachers will then instruct their students about how to use the device and every class will then make several educational videos to be entered into the school district film festival, which Cox plans to organize. These videos will be screened at a local theater or large auditorium to be viewed by participants and their families. Winners for different categories will be announced during the night. This will help students and teachers by incorporating skills like sequencing, writing, and editing — in addition to a plethora of other educational outcomes students are asked to learn by the end of the year.
