Graham Dey

Dey's "Eyes On the Sky: Imagining the Cosmos" project will allow students to fill the roles of archaeologists and astronomers throughout the school year. Students will formulate research themes and study basic archaeological field survey methods and learn the basics of observational astronomy. This will culminate in a week-long field trip to eastern Oregon. While there, students will study rock art sites, the sky and stars using the latest surveying and telescopic equipment. Upon their return, the students will develop their research projects and attempt to reconstruct the field site using mapping technology. In the end, students will have presented their final projects to school and community groups. Dey also plans to enter their projects in both the Junior Academy of Sciences Symposium and the Intel Science Exposition. Dey is a resident of Salem.
