Hearn's "Braille Trail" is a project in which students create a nature trail with a guide in Braille, large print, and regular print that is open to the public and accessible to people who are visually impaired or blind. The project gives students an opportunity to work in teams, socialize with their peers and the community, build up their self-esteem, improve their motor skills, and plan and coordinate a project. The trail also gives other blind students an accessible place to go where they can take a walk and hear birds singing, smell the fragrance of a forest, feel a stream, touch moss, or feel the bark of a tree.
