Elizabeth Band

Band's "Literature Prop Boxes" is a reading project that lets students interact with the stories they read. Each box in the program contains a reading-level appropriate book for students to read, along with props to help them act out scenes from the story and share them with their classmates via videotape for discussion. The project encourages students to follow their own interests in portraying the stories, as students interested in stagecraft can work behind the scenes, those interested in acting can act, and so on. Students are also asked to rewrite or change the story in some way, making the project valuable to practicing critical thinking as well as reading skills.
