Eileen Cramer
Cramer’s innovative teaching idea, “Sensory Rooms/Training,” focuses on creating two types of Sensory Rooms in order to provide sensory integration for students who experience emotional or physical stress, or are distracted by a need for sensory input due to unregulated emotions, inability to self soothe when under stress or display symptoms of ADD/ADHD — all of which can greatly reduce academic growth. One room would be a "Chill Spa" with calming lights, a hammock seat swing, a small tent, bubble tubes, weighted plush blanket, stretch bands, varying tactile tools such as a massager, soft brushes and plush animals. The other room would be an Active Outlet with an individual trampoline, tilt and spin, climbing apparatus, tactile wall mazes, stretchy bands and exercise balls. In consultation with Cramer’s district assigned Occupational Therapist, Cramer will give lessons to each class, including the terms "self-regulation" and "sensory integration" prior to them visiting the sensory rooms, geared for each grade level.
