Edward McCarthy

McCarthy's "Community Choices: Roadblock or Right of Way?" project involves students researching a planned road realignment in the community, which will affect families and increase traffic. Students use Geographic Information Systems and other technology to create interactive data that can be compiled into maps and charts, allowing physical details to be analyzed. Their resulting hypotheses about the proposed roadway are presented on posters at community meetings. Linking technology and investigation, the project helps students develop research, analytical, and presentational skills.
