Sieggreen's "Bring Songbirds Back to Northville" program is an opportunity for students at Hillside Middle School to fight back against natural habitat destruction by creating a bird sanctuary. Wildlife is affected by the dangers of global warming, pollution and disease, and habitat destruction damage has been overwhelming. Sieggreen saw an opportunity to provide a safe-haven habitat for songbirds where they can safely reproduce with an ample supply of water and food while teaching his students the fundamentals of wildlife. The school system has already reserved two acres for woodlands reclamation. The creation, upkeep, and monitoring of the station will allow students to take steps towards reversing the trends in habitat destruction and to foster an appreciation for nature. The findings from student observations will be shared with the Maybury State Park. The program will start with four classes of 285 students, but all 10 seventh-grade life science classes will contribute over the course of the year. Sieggreen resides in Northville.
