Dorothy Blanton

Blanton's "The Kindness Company Service Learning Project" has sixth, seventh and eighth grade students work in various departments of a simulated company to produce items to donate to community organizations. Students run the company and learn management skills by working in human resources, engineering, planning, finance, design, and materials management. Students produce baked goods for homeless centers, and sewn items including wheelchair bags for nursing home patients and disabled veterans, dolls for children's Red Cross disaster bags, quilts for Project Linus, and hats and scarves for the homeless. Students practice skills in all subject areas in a hands-on setting.
