Donna Pickett

Pickett's "English Standards, Hands On" project combines state standards for eighth-grade English curricula with a hands-on approach more in keeping with Communication Arts. The project involves the preparation of a live performance that is written, designed, acted, directed, and advertised by students. Students adapt required literary works to plays, incorporating skills targeted by the standards: reading, writing, speaking, and media literacy. The project encourages teamwork and tolerance of differences while recognizing talents and strengths in all participants.
