Hardy's "H.E.L.P. - Home Exercise in Literacy Program" provides "appropriate-leveled" reading material for at-risk first-grade readers to take home and share with their families. Through the program, student reading level is assessed and students are matched with books that are appropriate for their skill level. Students are then able to take home books to read with their families so parents can take a more active role in reinforcing what is being taught in the classroom. The program allows teachers to track the progress of students' reading skills, while young readers grow in skill and fluency and develop effective reading strategies and a love of reading.
