Fator's "SCORE" project is a community volunteer tutoring program that stands for Students & Community Own Reading/Math Excellence. Through the project, volunteers are recruited, screened, and then matched with achieving-below-grade-level students to receive tutoring sessions two to three days per week, 15-20 minutes per day. As a result, all 70 students involved in the program are expected to make significant gains in reading and math skills, with more than 50% catching up with other students at their grade level. In addition, the community has developed a better connection to the school, and parents report better family harmony thanks to student pride in their classroom skills.
